History Fair

The Collings-Knight House is throwing a birthday bash for the state!
June 14th, 12:00pm-4:00pm at the Collings-Knight Homestead

New Jersey turns 350 this year, and we're celebrating with a History Fair! This family-friendly event will showcase historic activities like spinning, weaving, basketry, and beekeeping, and offer information on historic events and customs. Meet historic personalities like Oney Judge- the slave who escaped from the Washington Presidential Mansion in Philadelphia; or a Civil War Soldier, or a Civil War civilian. Enjoy children's games, an historic cake tasting, an historic fashion show (at 3:00), refreshments, and more!

Also featuring: live music by the Piney Hollow Drifters at 2:00, and at 1:00, the Regional Premier of excerpts from Amelie Hunter's ballet "The Vacant Chair"- a performance piece based on the Southern women's perspective of the Civil War, told through dance, journal entries, and letters, performed to spirituals and traditional music. For even more fun, come in historic costume- anything from Colonial to Steam Punk!

Admission is free for members. Non-members are $5 per person, and $15 per family.

Rain Location:
In the event of rain, the Fair will be held at the Collingswood Middle School Gymnasium from 12:00-4:00. Tours of the house may still be held, weather permitting.
